ISMO-INTER SCHOOLS MATH OLYMPIAD
GENERAL
INFORMATION
Mathematical Olympiads are the competitions conducted by
different organizations to identify, encourage, promote and nurture
the talent in Mathematics at Regional, National and International
levels.
After completing a decade of quality educational services
in Pakistan, in 2005, PakTurk International Schools and Colleges
started conducting Inter Schools Mathematical Olympiad for students
studying in Private as well as Government Schools across Pakistan.
The said competition is conducted at different centres
located in different parts of the country including Federal and
Provincial capitals and a couple of cities from interior Sind and
Punjab. Attractive Cash Prizes in addition to Shields and
Certificates are awarded to the successful candidates. Winner Schools
and their principals are also awarded commemorative shields and Merit
Certificate.
OBJECTIVES OF
MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
The role of Mathematics cannot be denied in the age of
rapid technological advancements and innovations. The broad
objectives of conducting mathematical Olympiad include:

Identifying talent in Mathematics
o
Providing opportunities to young and talented students
to solve challenging problems in Mathematics.
o
Promoting excellence in Mathematics
o
Encouraging talented students to pursue careers in the
fields related to Mathematics.

MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD) 2010 ISLAMABAD
After successful Olympiad in
different cities of Pakistan, this year PAKTURK International Schools
and Colleges Islamabad Branches in collaboration with Federal
Education Directorate and education Department Rawalpindi, is going to
arrange 5th ISMO at its two campuses in Chak Shahzad and
G-10 Markaz simultaneously on 28th February 2010.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN PAKTURK
MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD (5th ISMO 2010)?
a)
Any student studying in class 5 or 8 can participate in the
competition. Separate papers will be set for both categories i.e. for
Class 5 and for class 8.
b)
He/she should be a regular student of a school affiliated with federal
Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad or Rawalpindi
Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi.
c)
The age of student for Category A (5th Class) should not be
more than 12 while for Category B (8th class) the maximum
age limit is 14 years.
FEE TO BE PAID
Every candidate shall remit a sum of Rs.100/- as Registration cum
stationary fee for the examination. The fee of the individual
candidates will be collected at the time of registration. Schools
nominees will deposit the prescribed fee at their schools and the same
will be forwarded alongwith registration proforma.
DATE OF EXAMINATION
a) 5th
PakTurk Mathematics Olympiad 2010 Rawalpindi, Islamabad will be held
on Sunday,
28th February 2010 at PakTurk International
schools and Colleges Boys Branch Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, PakTurk
Girls Branch, G-10 Markaz Islamabad and PakTurk Junior Branch G-10,
Markaz Islamabad simultaneously.
b)
The examination will be conducted in three sessions and the first
session will commence at
10.00 a.m. sharp
c)
The duration of the examination will be 1 hour.
d)
The registration card will contain the information about venue and
time of examination.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
The results will be announced on Saturday the 4th March 2010
at 1000 hrs. The list will be displayed at the examination Centres and
will also be made available on our website;

LAST DATE FOR
APPLYING
The fee along with the desired information about the students should
reach PakTurk International latest by 26th
February 2010.
HOW TO APPLY?
a)
The Head of Institution will forward the names of students to the
organizers.
b)
The information about the candidates including name, father’s name,
date of birth, school address, classes should be sent to the Organizer
along with the fee before the last date.
c)
The candidates should be regular students of the institution.
d)
The registration proforma should have complete information about the
students.
e)
The registration proforma should also carry his/her latest photograph
duly attested by the Principal.

passport size photographs and Registration / cum Examination fee

MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION
The question paper for class 8th will be in
English whereas the question paper for class 5 will be made available
in both English and Urdu Languages. The candidates of class 5 may
choose any of the two mediums.
SYLLABUS AND PATTERN
OF EXAMINATION
All the questions will be multiple Choice Questions. There will be 50
questions in all and 60 minutes will be the maximum time limit. The
areas of Mathematics as syllabus for this competition are:
For Class 5: Natural Numbers, Common Fractions, Unitary Method,
Average, Geometry, Information
Handling
For Class 8: Sets, rational Numbers, Number System with Base2 and
5, Proportion, Square Roots, Percentage, Algebra,
Geometry, Information Handling.
The question paper will also consist of few questions of non-routine
nature (aptitude questions).
CONDUCT OF PAKTURK
ISMO
1)
PAKTURK will appoint invigilators as per ISMO examination norms.
2) In
case of any kind of misconduct (cheating, using unfair means etc), the
candidate will be disqualified the decision of Examination Committee
will be final.
3)
The decisions regarding declaration of results, disqualifications and
all other related things will be taken by the Examination Committee.
These decisions will be firm and final and none of them will be
challengeable at any forum / court of law.
QUESTION PAPERS
a)
The question papers will be set by a group of experienced mathematics
teachers.
b)
The question booklets will be returned to the invigilators after the
paper. The same will be made available on PakTurk Islamabad Website
www. pakturkisb.edu.pk, alongwith answer key on 28th
February after 7.00 p.m.
ITEMS TO BRING ON
EXAMINATION DAY
On examination day don't forget to bring a pencil, eraser, Registration
Card with photograph attached. Calculator and Mobile Phone will NOT
be allowed in any case.
MERIT LIST
After completion of paper checking, the results will be
announced. However, to give away prizes, information provided by the
student will be confirmed from the concerned school and other
resources. False information would result in disqualification of the
candidate. The prizes will be given away in a ceremony held at PAKTURK
Boys Campus on the date that will be announced later.
PRIZES
1st Prize: Rs.30,000/-
2nd Prize: Rs. 20,000/-
3rd Prize: Rs. 10,000/-
4th to 10th: Rs.1000/-
each
11th to 20th: Rs.500
each
Moreover, Merit Certificates and shields will also be given to
the winners. All First Division holders will get achievement
certificates.
It
is important to note that PAKTURK students will participate in the
said competition but they would not be eligible to get above-mentioned
prizes. However, they may be given extra prizes.
